It's Time to Let Your Legislators Know that MAIN STREET MATTERS!
Dear Oregon Main Street Colleagues,
Many thanks to those of you who have endorsed the Revitalize Main Street Act<http://restoreoregon.org/rehab-tax-incentive/> . As you may know, our bill was introduced by the Senate Finance Committee and will come up for a hearing in early March. Now our goal is for every committee member to know about our bill, to have heard from numerous constituents about the impact it will have, and to vote YES to forward it out of committee.
THIS IS WHERE YOU COME IN! Right now, this week, contact your state Senator and Representative and ask them to support SB 565, the Revitalize Main Street Act.
WE'VE MADE IT EASY. Click on this legislative locator link<http://cts.vresp.com/c/?RestoreOregon/75985c3403/b13a66874a/b8501cada4> to find your state Senator and Representative, then cut & paste (with a dash of personalization) the attached letter template into an email. It takes just a couple of minutes and you're done! Its particularly important that those of you in districts belonging to members of the Senate Finance Committee (Hass, Baertschiger, Boquist, Edwards, and Riley) get your emails out pronto. Those of you who are NOT in one of these districts, please CC your email to Senator Hass who is the committee chair (Sen.MarkHass at state.or.us<mailto:Sen.MarkHass at state.or.us>).
Finally, if you would be willing to come to Salem to testify at the Senate Committee hearing in March (exact date TBD), please let me know. We'll need to fill the room to impress upon the legislators that it's time to invest in Main Street because MAIN STREET MATTERS. Your active advocacy will make all the difference.
The Revitalize Main Street Act creates a Historic Rehabilitation Fund to provide a 25% rebate for the rehabilitation of historic commercial buildings - stores, hotels, theaters, apartments, factories, mills, etc. The rebate would help offset the high cost of restoration, seismic retrofitting, and code compliance, bringing jobs and economic vitality back to our downtowns.
