[OMS_MANAGERS] Do you have a Pub Crawl or Wine Walk?

We have two in Downtown Albany. The liability is handled by the two
different Rotary Clubs that hold the events. It is not covered by ADA. The
glasses MUST be empty before going out the door. That information is
provided to attendees at check in. I find it best when the serves also
remind participant they can't carry it out before they pour. I've seen some
attendees will request a shorter poor or share rather than choose to stay to
finish or dump the drink. Door monitors posted are at every location.
More about the events:
Downtown Albany Wine Walk <https://albanywinewalk.com/> - Albany Rotary
Club
The story: This is held on exclusively on 1st Ave. The streetscape on First
Ave. was done many years ago and made for a more upscale feel for attendees.
For many years in included "upstairs" loft tours, but as more of the lofts
are completed and rented the upstairs aspect was removed in 2017 (although
is still on some materials). It was quite a draw to have the tours, but the
event has grown and will do well either way.
The basics: Wineries are hosted inside a variety of businesses. There are
appetizers at every stop. Tickets for additional tastes may be purchased at
designated locations.
ADA Involvement: We have no direct connection to the event. Albany Rotary
Club does everything - working with the wineries, finding locations, ticket
sales, etc. ADA supports them holding the event Downtown by including it in
our marketing, attending and encouraging merchants to get ready for company
by staffing appropriately, adjusting hours to gain shoppers, clean up the
sidewalks, etc.
Craft Brew Smack Down
<https://www.greateralbanyrotaryclub.com/craft-brew-smackdown/> - Greater
Albany Rotary Club
The story: This event is deliberately not on 1st Ave. It is on 2nd and 3rd
Aves. to give different merchants a chance to be part of the event. It
provides a different take on our Downtown, although 2nd and 3rd Aves are
undergoing a streetscape right now - so soon they will be the shiny penny!
The Basics: This event is breweries, cideries and distilleries - although
this year there were a couple wineries also. There are appetizers at every
stop. Tickets to the event include a mug, map and some tastes. The presale
this year was online. Sales day sales are available. Tickets for additional
tastes may be purchased at designated locations.
ADA Involvement: We are directly connected to the event. Greater Albany
Rotary Club coordinates the full event, secures the brewers, handles the
presale of tickets and publicity. ADA finds the locations. They must be an
ADA member to participate (I signed up two new member who were of this
event). Merchants provide a space, appetizers and a door monitor. ADA
coaches the merchants on layout and food. We host a brewery at our office
and offer a fantastic spread of appetizers from numerous local restaurants.
We also included the event in our marketing and encouraging merchants to get
ready for company by staffing appropriately, adjusting hours to gain
shoppers, clean up the sidewalks, etc.
Cheers!

Subject: [OMS_MANAGERS] Do you have a Pub Crawl or Wine Walk?
Hi Everyone,
One of our Main Street Managers would like to know which Main Street towns
have a pub crawl or wine walk event with the participants using the same
cup/glass and going from business to business. They have some question about
liability, etc. If you could reply to this message if you do have an event
like this, that would be great!
Best,
