Subject: Florence Community Looking for Project Advice
Good morning everyone,
Our Florence Downtown Revitalization Team is working with the city on an economic development project that seeks to revitalize a long-term vacant building that could be the shining jewel to our downtown area.
Our original intention was to focus on bringing a brewery to our little community (Sometimes I feel like Florence is one of the only towns in Oregon without a brewery of any sort, totally unacceptable! :)). After a meeting this morning with our economic development coordinator, we've come to the conclusion that we would like to focus on revitalizing the space in question to be a community co-op, with shared, rentable space for a farmers market, brewery, distillery, etc. on the ground floor and public meeting spaces for entrepreneurs, business owners, and innovators on the second floor.
We are looking at "Sprout!" in Springfield as a basic business model. Has anyone else had a similar experience with either making a co-op space like this, or simply bringing the community together to revitalize a large project? (The Bandon Cheese factory comes to mind). Specifically, we are wondering about:
* How to court prospective business owners
* How to attract private investments
* What type of funding did you use (grants, urban renewal, fundraising?)
* How to market this type of a project
Thank you so much in advance for everyone's help. Have a wonderful day!
