[OMS_MANAGERS] How to Find the Best Candidates With Your Next Job Post on 1/30

I’m going to take a few seconds of everyone’s time and offer some unsolicited thoughts, as I know there are several communities looking to hire a new ED. I am by no measure an expert on this topic, but here are a few thoughts regardless:

·         Hire the person, not the position. I know this is not a novel concept in the human resources world, but my observation is that few hiring committees actually follow it. Yes, initial applications must be filtered somehow, but the applicant with the best resume is rarely the best fit/hire.

·         Don’t cling to minimum job qualifications. Give serious consideration to applicants who do not appear “on paper” to be qualified for the position. People who demonstrate energy, ambition, and above all a willingness and ability to learn (potential) should be considered right up there with those with deeper resumes. They will probably stick around longer than someone with a deep resume as well.

It’s a tough labor market out there right now, but I believe there are always talented folks looking for opportunities to grow in their career. You’ve just got to recognize them when you see them (or their cover letter).  ☺
