Hello,

Thank you to everyone who participated in the OMS Network Meetings and Workshops in Independence! We wanted to follow-up with some of the info and to share some of the examples:

1. New Oregon Main Street Handbook: we have gone through our first major overhaul of the Oregon Main Street Handbook and the requirements to participate at each of the levels of the OMS Network. We also renamed the "Affiliate" level the "Associate" level. You can find a new copy of the handbook at: http://www.oregon.gov/oprd/HCD/SHPO/docs/2018OMSHandbook.pdf

2. Main Street Refresh Technical Assistance: In 2016, the National Main Street Center launched a refreshed methodology using the Main Street Approach to downtown revitalization. This refreshed approach emphasizes having one or two overarching transformation strategies that provide a unifying direction and focus to align the strategies and work of the four points (Design, Economic Vitality, Promotion, and Organization). Oregon Main Street will be selecting up to five pilot communities to receive technical assistance to help communities participating in the Main Street Track focus their downtown revitalization efforts. Applications are due February 23, 2018 - a copy of the application is attached.

3. Sample Fundraising Letter: The Port Orford Main Street Revitalization Association took what they learned from the Storytelling Workshop at the OMS Conference and put together a new donor solicitation letter. Board members wrote personalized messages on each of the letters. See the attached letter for inspiration for your towns!

4. Video Samples:

The Hillsboro Downtown Partnership, with the assistance of a grant from Cultural Coalition of Washington Counties, created a video to promote Hillsboro's First Tuesday Art Walk. You can see this super cool video at: https://youtu.be/zcZIKo_-1IA

Myrtle Creek also did a video, "Main Street Mashup." Within 24 hours of posting on Facebook, they had 10,000 views - pretty amazing for a town with a population of approximately 3500!: https://www.facebook.com/joshua.norton.927/videos/1675064859180448/

5. Just a reminder that applications are open for the Performing Main Street and Transforming Downtown levels of the Oregon Main Street Network for communities who are currently participating at the Exploring Downtown and Associate levels and want to be considered for one of the upper tiers, or for communities who aren't currently part of the Network but feel they are ready to deeply engage with the Main Street program. Applications can be found on our website at: http://www.oregon.gov/oprd/HCD/SHPO/Pages/mainstreet.aspx

As always, thanks to everyone in the Network for the amazing work you are doing on behalf of revitalizing your historic downtowns and neighborhood commercial districts.

Cheers,
Sheri & Katie
