[OMS_MANAGERS] Alive after Five Campaign

Hi Holly. Though it is not an official Main St program as far as I know, Salem 365 has done a great job enlivening downtown Salem. If you have spent time here, you will have noticed that it’s remarkably different than it was even two years ago, enough that getting a parking space downtown on a weeknight is tricky. I’m not sure who all of the coordinators are, but Jim Vu of Citizens Bank is part of it. The Salem Chamber or Travel Salem will know some of the other leaders. Might be worth taking a look. The focus is not on specific events as much as it is collecting info about all that is happening in the area, encouraging more downtown activity, celebrating it and publicizing it (not unlike what McMinnville’s economic development wizard Jody Christensen does for her summer business interns so they can see that McMinnville is a happening place). All of this is geared toward making both communities more friendly to young professionals and those looking for more action than, say, someone who wants to spend a lot of time watching TV in a barcalounger. Many people around here have been surprised at how lively Salem has become, and it’s all because of this group (the “365” refers to 365 days/year of activities/fun downtown).

Hi, Holly—

I’m from the Beaverton Downtown Association. Our Executive Director, Liz Hannum, has moved to Oregon City. We just hosted a Wine and Chocolate Walk that went from 6 to 9 in Old Town Beaverton. We also host Downtown Dinners on every Thursday at 7. We meet at different restaurants in town and people find us through Meet-Up.

Hope this helps.

Hello,

I just finished up a meeting where the members wanted me to research an "Alive after five" campaign. Have any of you held this type of event? I would appreciate any information that you have.

Thanks,

Holly
