Dear Preservation Partners:
As you know, one of the guiding values of the National Trust for Historic
Preservation is inclusion and diversity. In celebration of the 100th
anniversary of the 19th amendment, the National Trust is developing a broad
strategy for promoting and preserving sites related to women’s history in
America. This includes sites directly related to the women’s suffrage
movement, as well as other significant sites of women’s achievement and
activism.
This summer, one of our interns, Lauren Kirk, is reaching out to
preservation leaders around the country to help us identify potential sites
that the National Trust could partner with, especially those that are
threatened and endangered.
Given your close connection to the sites and situations in your
communities, we are asking you to please notify us of places that represent
diverse women’s experiences and could benefit from National Trust attention
in the western regions.
If you would like to learn more about this initiative or to suggest a site,
please email Lauren at *lkirk at savingplaces.org
<lkirk at savingplaces.org>* by *July
19th*. You can also help by spreading the word and passing this request
along to women’s heritage organizations, historical sites, or local
preservation groups that may benefit from this initiative.
Best regards,
Lauren N. Kirk, MSW and MCRP
