Community Updates:
Woodburn: the small business assistance program hit the street last week with applications due at the end of the month Click Here<https://pamplinmedia.com/wbi/152-news/469720-380221-woodburn-grants-to-boost-small-businesses> to read more ; city is also going to use $400,000 of CDBG funds that have been on the books for quite some time as revolving loan funds for housing rehab; had a peaceful BLM protest downtown after initial concerns expressed by business owners. Owners came together to outline their concerns, met w/rally organizers, and the event went well. Business owners felt their concerns were heard.
Bandon – former GBA board president and RARE main street coordinator is coming back as planning director for the city. Great news for Bandon and GBA!
Alberta MS – City of Portland has launched their new Safe Streets, Healthy Businesses initiative to allow temp street closure for commercial use until Oct 1st. Click Here<https://www.portland.gov/transportation/safestreetspdx/what-healthy-businesses-permit> to go to the City’s permit web page to learn more.
Pendleton – went through the effort to work with the city on street closure every Saturday through the summer. Launched their first last Saturday w/only one business taking advantage. That business joined from 3 to 8 pm and saw a 30% increase in sales.
Albany – they have done the pre-work to close one lane of traffic for outdoor eating, dining but for now are just using sidewalks. As weather improves, more business may be inclined to move forward with the closure. They also had a peaceful march downtown.
Lebanon – moved forward with their “Space Walk” to show possibilities of vacant spaces. A local realtor is the “host” with the city moderating. LDA FB live streams the event and will post on a youtube channel. They had a little connectivity issue but will use hotspots for the next one with plans to run every two weeks. Have all spots filled through August. They had a Unity Walk downtown that went really well. And, they secured a match from a donor to match funds from the city.
Beaverton – city council is looking to approve outdoor seating tonight in parking spaces and public areas.
Discussion on Diversity & Inclusion Policy:
* City of Woodburn has a good example that Jamie will share
* Alberta Main Street – updated their policy at their board retreat in February facilitated by a specialist in diversity and inclusion. They also have an updated message on their webpage: Click Here<https://albertamainst.org/>
* Discussion about the importance of not siloing “equity and inclusion” as a separate committee but using it as a lens to view projects and activities
Promotional Activities:
* Alberta MS: Attached and below is info from Bridget Bayer on the sponsorship package and solicitation letter that she is working with Ann on the Summer of Alberta for Alberta Main Street. This is the example of changing up their big, annual summer street fair into a series of smaller activities over a longer period of time….the letter quite nicely summarizes this pivot!
* Albany hosted a sidewalk chalk art that could be followed on-line. Moved their clean to a “do you own downtown clean-up” where people are self organizing their own projects. ADA will give out downtown dollars to volunteers who show up to work on their projects. Also, not organizing their big Crazy Days event but promoting what businesses are doing individually over a 4-day period.
* Beaverton is working with an artist to draw the outline of an outdoor mural on the ground. High school students will come to paint.

HI _____,
Thank you for interest in our new promotional "Summer of Alberta" event. Alberta Main Street is working to promote artists, heroes and the businesses that are open this summer in the Alberta Arts District. It’s trying times, with not a lot of room for positivity but the Summer of Alberta might offer a chance to do more good!
Summer of Alberta
The Alberta Main Street Association is pivoting from our regular events on Alberta Street to a multifaceted, mixed-media promotion. Like the Summer of Love<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Summer_of_Love>, the Summer of Alberta<https://albertamainst.org/signature-events/summer-of-alberta/> hopes to be as memorable for all the best reasons.
It's all about the Alberta arts community, our street’s diversity and history. Alberta Main Street (AMS) will promote Alberta heroes, helpers and businesses with virtual and live events. AMS will promote and stimulate excitement about heroic endeavors, artistic efforts, and open businesses on Alberta Street.
Starting in June, AMS will begin a major promotional marketing campaign with advertising online and in print, a social media blitz, and event promotions, both live and virtual. AMS volunteers and professional staff will write publicity pieces, blogs, and produce video promotions aimed at specific target markets.
Each last Thursday in June, July, and August and EVERY Thursday in July and August, there will be featured special events at Alberta Street businesses. Entertainers, artists in action, stories of Alberta Street heroes and live street performers will be videoed and aired on these days plus archived for viewing at later time.
Summer Sponsors will be recognized in collaboration with specific businesses and AMS full a full year! Segmented email campaigns will be directed to target markets engaging them with contests, games, comedy shows, celebrity chats, lectures, and live online performances.
The Summer of Alberta promotion will include a special ticketed fundraising event at the Alberta Rose Theater on August 8, normally our annual Street Fair day so we’re calling it “Street Fair in the Air.” Live cameras will broadcast so people can view the activities from the safety of their homes, or a safe social distance at the theater. Interactive social media, zoom, online house parties, and Facebook live events will multiply the day success.
We would like to promote your participation as a Sponsor as much as possible. I’ve attached a full Sponsorship Information Packet and a 1-page outline of opportunities “in a nutshell."
Please let me know if have any questions. I will follow up later this week to see how ____ could be involved in the Summer of Alberta.
Thank you for your consideration,
