[OMS_MANAGERS] OMS Video Call Notes

Reiterating what has been said here, Kevin's efforts and the notes in particular are helpful and informative. As I indicated last week, I have a standing conflict and cannot attend the Tuesday morning sessions.

I have very little to add from Bandon. One of the primary efforts like many towns have been reporting is a Facebook page on restaurant takeouts and deliveries. Restaurants put up their menus, hours, phone and delivery phone. The Chamber has done most of the work on this and sadly I must confess it is slowly dying. We started with 20 restaurants on the list. The 11th just closed this morning, six in the last four days. Our small town with an average age of 58 simply can't support them.

Now the saddest news of all, our largest employer, Bandon Dunes closed 15 minutes ago.

It is not a good time for our small businesses here and the influx of out of town folks on the coast over this last weekend was a killer here. All of our lodging has been shut down since Monday.

Still, the general mood here remains quite positive and optomistic. Right now, we have time on our hands to enjoy the natural assets we are blessed with here and understand that this too will pass.

This message is being distributed over the OMS listserv. All responses will be over the listserv.

Thanks Kevin – lots of good ideas this morning once again. A couple ideas stood up for me:

  * Local landlords in Astoria working with their tenants on rent flexibility
  * Coordinated delivery van service in Beaverton (luckily, a business owner had a van that wasn’t being used but was insured for delivery that could quickly be re-purposed to serve as delivery van for businesses who can sell on-line or over the phone w/deliveries going out once per day for all).
  * Take-out food service from restaurants is working in Albany – some restaurants were sold out on Friday. ADA is playing a big role in getting the message out.
  * Some of the chefs in Astoria are doing online cooking videos.

And, just in case folks missed it, I was so inspired by the call last week, I wrote a blog for our Oregon Heritage Exchange – see below.

Oregon Main Street Network rallies amidst COVID-19 impact

As events were unfolding last week, Oregon Main Street Network managers took the initiative to organize a video conference call with each other to get inspiration, support, and ideas on how best to support their business owners, downtowns, and community during this time. Sheri Stuart, Oregon Main Street Network Coordinator shares some of the conversation in the most recent Oregon Heritage Exchange Blog post, Main Streets Coming Together<https://eur03.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Foregonheritage.wordpress.com%2F2020%2F03%2F18%2Fmain-streets-coming-together%2F&data=02%7C01%7C%7Ccfea29aaae024ca2677608d7d00d1dac%7C84df9e7fe9f640afb435aaaaaaaaaaaa%7C1%7C0%7C637206627055474489&sdata=Uqd9jBztAAmH0Zm%2FdZiIuZZEWNGRKMJA3AXqwjUtJPI%3D&reserved=0>.
