  1. Oregon Main Street Revitalization Grant Update: $10 million in funding was included in HB 5006 (budget reconciliation bill) that passed the legislature on Saturday. It will be funded through the sale of the lottery bond package. We are still unsure if it will be funded in the spring 2022 bond, spring 2023, or split between the two. Will update you as we learn more.
  2. Oregon Heritage Survey - Establishing Community Value for Cultural Heritage in Disaster Resilience Planning and Recovery. As consultants to Oregon Heritage, The Craig Group appreciates your help in seeking input from your community of supporters on the value of Oregon's heritage resources in planning for and recovering from disaster. We appreciate you taking 10 minutes or so to complete this survey to better inform our team and the Oregon Heritage stakeholder advisory group as we craft a communications strategy for heritage-based disaster preparedness and recovery at the local level. This messaging platform will support your own communication strategies with elected officials or tribal leaders, property owners, cultural institutions, residents and other stakeholders. Thank you for distributing this to your community members and completing the survey yourself. To access the survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/OregonHeritageDisasterResilience
  3. Excellence on Main Awards. Just a reminder Excellence on Main award nominations are due in two weeks. We have refreshed the awards from the name to categories to the submission process. What hasn’t changed is that the award nominations are an opportunity for YOU to honor the people, the projects, and the activities that are outstanding achievements in your community. Attached is info about the awards, the award categories, nomination questions, and more – please note update below.

Eligible Applicants: The Excellence on Main Awards is open to all organizations participating in the "Main Street Track" of the Oregon Main Street Network, including Performing Main Street, Transforming Downtown, and Exploring Downtown levels.

Project Time Frame: If applicable, all projects must have been completed between July 2020 and June 2021.

Registration for the Online Application System: We are using our grants system for nominations this year To access the application, register at www.oprdgrants.org<http://www.oprdgrants.org>. Application Submission: Once you have a login, you will be able to submit your application. You can enter information, save, log out, log back in, enter more, etc. as many times as you would like before you submit. Instructions for OPRD: Grants Online visit our website. https://www.oregon.gov/oprd/OH/Pages/Grants.aspx

  * Important Update: One issue was discovered. Two categories were missed in the list of categories: Standout Volunteer and Outstanding Special Project. Since people have started working on nominations…way to go!...We can’t change the application.

So here is the work around. For both of these categories, in the Nomination Category drop down select Executive Manager (or Main Street Manager) of the Year. This will avoid any confusion because we know the managers.

In the Description Category – Enter ‘Standout Volunteer’ or ‘Outstanding Special Project’ At the very beginning of the Description section.

Our apologies for complicating a transition to a new process. Change is hard, this year is hard. Please, please, please don’t let it stop you from nominating!

     * Recreation Economy at USDA Economic Development Resources for Rural Communities

USDA’s Forest Service (FS), Rural Development (RD), and the National Institute for Food and Agriculture (NIFA) have developed this resource guide for rural communities to identify resources that develop the recreation economy. Growing and maintaining a healthy recreation sector that benefits residents over the long term requires balancing natural resource management, conservation efforts, infrastructure investment, business development and many other factors. It also requires active stakeholder engagement, a robust understanding of potential challenges and opportunities, collaboration among various levels of government and landowners and a strong plan for the region’s future. These efforts present unparalleled economic opportunities—to revitalize main street, preserve cultural heritage, support entrepreneurship and small business growth, reinvest in communities and more.
