Rural communities take notice! Teens are interested in entrepreneurship.

In 2018, Junior Achievement and Ernst & Young LLP (EY) released a report which showed that 41% of teens would consider entrepreneurship as a career option, versus working in a traditional job. At the same time, 61 percent of teen girls have thought about starting a business, compared to 54 percent of boys.*

Having an impactful teen entrepreneurship program in your community empowers teens and helps them to see the opportunities in their community. It can lower high teen unemployment and reduce the drain of talented youth to urban locations. Teen entrepreneurship helps teens succeed and it grows strong towns.

A proven program for Rural Teen Entrepreneurship.

When we first met Stacy Green, we were amazed by the success she was having with teens in the rural town of Enterprise, Oregon which has about 2000 residents. We vowed to help her share this success with other rural places. Then COVID-19 came.

During this challenging time, Stacy and the RR team have worked on refining the Mentor Match Teen Entrepreneurship program and it is now fully available for in-person, hybrid, and online delivery on the Reinventing Rural platform.

Since 2010 the Mentor Match Teen Entrepreneur program has created over 80 successful teen entrepreneurs
·        More than 20% of Mentor Matchers returned to their rural community to work in the business community and volunteer in the community. They are starting families and buying homes, contributing to the growth and vitality of their hometowns.
·        10% choose to make their livings as entrepreneurs within four years out of high school.
·        Many teens have created side hustles to pay for higher education and/or supplement full-time jobs.
·        Over $3 million dollars in scholarships leveraged, including 11 Ford Scholars, one National Federation of Independent Business scholars, and multiple scholarships from universities, Rotary, Elks, and other local and regional groups.
You will also hear from Maria Weer, Executive Director, Building Healthy Families, Mary Swanson, local businesses owner and program mentor, and Marcus Lynn, 2011 & 2012 program participant, successful entrepreneur, and now employed at Bank of Eastern Oregon.
