Hi Tyler,
Please find attached the Albany Police Department’s sign handout.
We do have ADA-compliant sidewalk cutouts and the correct number of ADA parking spaces on most blocks. The 2017-later streetscapes are compliant. They are added as needed to the old streets throughout the entire city on a complaint basis. There must be 5 feet of navigatable space for access not obstructed by signs, sidewalk dining elements, etc.
You will see that Downtown has special regulations.
* Distances from the corner are different than other parts of town.
* There are size restrictions on banner signs and a-frame signs.
* Feather signs are not allowed but the sewn “open” banners are. We have a vendor who is permitted to cut the pole hole into the sidewalk.
* A-frame signs are one per business, but the sign can be assigned to a different business at their discretion. For example, the bank doesn’t place an a-frame sign in front of their business. The bank allows the nearby coffee shop to put a sign in “their” spot.
Let me know if you’d like any clarification or further info.
Thank you,

Tyler,
I’ve attached Stayton’s sign regulations. See Section 17.20.140.9-B.b for our standards for portable signs. We allow signs in the right of way in the downtown area only. Decades ago, someone drilled holes in the sidewalk – I think for the placement of flags during holidays. Our specifically allows signs to placed in those holes. That is no something likely to be replicated in another community.

Subject: [OMS_MANAGERS] Downtown Sign Ordinance
Hello all,
We received a request from one of our downtown businesses to change our current sign ordinance. The requested change is to allow signs to be displayed in the public right-of-way as long as they are not blocking pedestrian traffic on sidewalks. We are looking for any additional criteria that cities may have on signs in downtown areas that we could also include in this revised code. If there is any insight your jurisdiction or organization can provide that would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you,
