[OMS_MANAGERS] Artificial flowers

Thank you, Annie!

I’ve attached our sponsor letter. A long-time supporter, Russ Tripp, walked in today with a $3000 sponsorship (our top level is $1200). He said his goal is for us to extend our flowers from 4th to 9th . He is in his 90s I hope we can make that happen for him in the next few years. We also had a $1200 renewal arrived in the mail from The Natty Dresser, many of you know Oscar Hult. I’m still working on renewing some of the other top sponsors on the tailgate.

Our watering team is retirees. They work 3-4 hrs. a day and water 65 baskets plus 20+ pots. They happily work for minimum wage and use the funds as “fun money.” One gentleman worked one day a week last year to buy a new telescope and will be back this year to buy some accessories.

Please let me know if I can help in any way.

Lise

Lise
You do amazing work. I would love to see us purchase the EarthPlanter baskets.

We bought EarthPlanters a few years ago. It cut our hanging basket watering to every other day instead of 2x a day. We could likely go to every 3rd day. Their regular planters hold enough water for weeks not days. That might free up you daughter to do a few hanging baskets. You could buy a few planters at a time and build it op. They have a lifetime warranty and are the most friendly and helpful company. We started by testing 4 hanging baskets and then switched everything. We now have 124 + water 18 more for the city (they pay us). We do a couple of fundraisers to help support flower costs and paid staff.

Thank you for your suggestions. I wish we had the manpower to do the hanging, but unfortunately volunteers are very hard to come by in our community (not from lack of trying). We have one volunteer (my daughter) who waters all the flowers downtown, which is quite a few, and she would just not be able to keep up with hanging baskets.

Our small town does have real hanging baskets which are tended to twice a day by 2 or more volunteers in the community. One of the volunteers is a city council woman and chamber of commerce member, and the other is a generous man that cares about our town. We have a very small downtown area and the hanging baskets bring real joy to the community. We have about 15 baskets and about 8 planter boxes on Main St.

The volunteers have a golf cart with a 50 gallon water tank equipped with a pump and sprayer. They make their rounds morning and evening, and there is always someone stopping to visit! It seriously builds good will within the community. This reminds me - I have pruned roses in a vacant lot for a few years now and it is time to do that again! We also have a community member that can be seen pushing his lawnmower around town, mowing the yards of elderly or disabled folks that can’t get it done themselves.

No money or equipment means time to get some volunteers.
