Oregon Cultural Trust & Arts Commission Potential Merger: Information Session, Feb. 11

In December, the Oregon Cultural Trust Board and the Oregon Arts Commission held special meetings and passed a motion approving a framework for a potential merger of the of the Oregon Arts Commission and Oregon Cultural Trust to form a single, semi-independent agency. You can view the framework that was voted on during that meeting here in the meeting agenda and packet<https://www.culturaltrust.org/wp-content/uploads/CulturalTrustBoardMtg_AgendaPacket_20241210.pdf>. There was also an article that was recently published on this potential merger that you can find here<https://www.orartswatch.org/better-together-oregon-arts-commission-cultural-trust-aim-for-a-merger/>.

The Oregon Heritage Commission and State Historic Preservation Office are two of the five Oregon Cultural Trust Statewide Partners<https://www.culturaltrust.org/about-us/statewide-partners/> that receive a percentage of the funds distributed by the Trust each year to support the programs and services they provide across the state. Heritage organizations across the are also eligible to apply Oregon Cultural Trust Grant programs. Tribal and County Cultural Coalitions are also funded by the Oregon Cultural Trust.

See listening session invitation below:

Dear Arts and Culture Representative,

We are writing to invite you to an information session about a potential merger of the Oregon Arts Commission and Oregon Cultural Trust to form a single, semi-independent agency serving Oregon's arts and culture community.

Both boards unanimously approved a framework for this effort in December (see meeting packet for that meeting here<https://www.culturaltrust.org/wp-content/uploads/CulturalTrustBoardMtg_AgendaPacket_20241210.pdf>) and a bill is the drafting phase for consideration by the Legislature. If approved, the new entity would be formed in July of 2027.

All existing grant programs and services will continue.

We are now reaching out to important stakeholders to share the plan and involve them in the process.

We currently have two one-hour information sessions scheduled, below. You are welcome to attend either.

If needed, we will schedule more.

We hope to see you!

Brian Rogers and the Oregon Arts and Culture Team
