[OMS_MANAGERS] Geo-fencing apps?

We looked at Datafy too and thought they were better suited for marketing campaigns and DMO-type organizations.  It would be interesting if we could find a panel of communities who have used one or both to talk about their experiences.

I’m at the Oregon Gov Con on Tourism, and in a moment of serendipity, am at a table this morning for breakfast with a woman who works for a Placer type competitor.  Datafy.com
She had some interesting perspectives about the limits of placer and how there may be other products that might better serve civic organizations like ours.

Independence had placer for a year a couple years ago.  It's useful for a lot of things, but you really have to know what you want to do with it to make the cost worthwhile.  Also, the numbers never match up with on the ground data so you have to think of it in terms of trends, generalities, and percent changes as opposed to "513 people came to this store last week."  Our attorney also had a lot of issues with their contract terms.  On the positive side, we also used it for things like land use planning, understanding traffic patterns, and park usage.

Wondering if any of your organizations are using placer.ai or other such geo-fencing applications for data gathering?  And if so, I'd like to reach out and find out more.  We are thinking of it here, but as a tiny town it seems a heavy lift.
