THANKS for pulling that out of the archive for us!  Very interesting info!

I too have a transportation mystery.  According to family legend, one of my
great-uncles is said to have "died the day they landed" in Forest Grove,
Oregon in 1881.  All I know for sure is that they didn't "land" in a plane.
:-)

Thoughts have been either to have come down the river by boat or come in by
train.  I haven't been able to come up with any ideas to try to figure out
which.
