[or-roots] How did they get here; (from archive)

Just a comment about the terminology.

In my family the term "landed" has meant nothing more than "got there".

For example, we "landed in Flagstaff in 1949". Well, we took the train from Medford.

So, I wouldn't necessarily put much stock in the term meaning anything particular about the mode of
travel.

THANKS for pulling that out of the archive for us! Very interesting info!

I too have a transportation mystery. According to family legend, one of my
great-uncles is said to have "died the day they landed" in Forest Grove,
Oregon in 1881. All I know for sure is that they didn't "land" in a plane.
:-)

Thoughts have been either to have come down the river by boat or come in by
train. I haven't been able to come up with any ideas to try to figure out
which.
