[or-roots] Winter of 1949/50

A little late entering this discussion. This was the worst winter to
occur within my 72 years. I was in my senior year of high school with
no real responsibilities so I thoroughly enjoyed that winter. Six feet
of snow in our yard with 18 feet 15 miles up the road. No school for
several weeks as we couldn't get to town for over a week at one point,
even though we lived on a state highway until the state brought in a
rotary snow plow. Lots of exciting things happening within our little
community of Husum, WA building a community bob sled and everyone
taking rides to the next town every night. (Plenty of safety built in.)
The return sledders gathering in our house to warm up while the next
group took their turn. Some thaw then 17 degrees below zero then more
snow the unfortunate result was the collapse of many buildings. There
was no lack of work, as snow shovelers were in big demand. All in all a
most memorable winter.
