Secretary of State Unveils 2003-2004 Online Blue Book
Bradbury Hails the Blue Book as a Tool to Reconnect Citizens to Their Government
SALEM - Secretary of State Bill Bradbury today announced the release of the 2003 online version of the Oregon Blue Book.
The focus of this Blue Book is to provide even more tools to help Oregonians understand and access their government and cultural resources. It features new analysis of the state's economy and government finance - two topics at center stage in Oregon current events. The Blue Book also contains many more state agency histories and records retention schedules to help citizens put government programs in context. And, of course, it includes up-to-date contact information (including Web and e-mail addresses) and descriptions for all levels of government as well as hundreds of cultural and educational institutions.
The new "Historical Oregon Trademarks" exhibit features colorful trademark labels from products created all over Oregon and sold during the late-1800s and early-1900s. And the extensive Oregon history section now has links to related biographical sketches and Web exhibits for those who want to learn more about the individuals and events that have shaped the state.
"During a time of rapid change, the Blue Book helps to reconnect citizens with their government. Beyond the incredible amount of contact information, it provides much needed descriptions and analysis of government to help Oregonians make informed decisions," said Bradbury.
The Blue Book, published biennially since 1911, is Oregon's official government directory and encyclopedia of history and facts. The new online Blue Book can be seen at http://bluebook.state.or.us. The printed version will be available by April.
