I think I read this in a report that I received when I typed one of my relatives name: Luman Gates in google and found that he had married a Luisa Martin in Yamhill co., Or 1874  and it was related in the story that she had a spot, mole, mark etc on her wrist or hand that she called her zickafoose spot.  I assume that she had made that connection because she say similiar markings on her in-laws. 
I hope this is clearer than mud and I have enlightened you. Just for fun, surreptiously (sneakily) see if your zickafoose acquaintnesses have the spot.
