Hi Mike --
     I saw your posting on the OR-ROOTS message list.  I have never searched
for a living person, but here are some random thoughts that passed through
my mind.  Others on the list will probably have some additional suggestions.

     She may have married again.  Have you checked marriage records from
1963 forward in the county where she last lived?

       You could check Portland land records indexes (both grantor [ie.
seller] and grantee [buyer] records) from 1963 forward to see if she bought
or sold property.   If she bought any, and then later sold it (and moved
elsewhere), sometimes the actual deed record will show the new place of
residence.

          At the telephone company or library, you could possibly check
phone books from 1963 forward to see when she disappeared from the phone
book.    That would give an indication of when she moved or died ... and you
could then check land records or death records from that date forward.

         If you obtain copies of the Marriage Records to your father (and to
Mr. Kondo), it will probably show her parents names.   Then you could check
the Social Security Death Index (online) to see when & where the parents
died (if they lived in the US).  Then check probate records in that
location.  Perhaps her residence will be mentioned.  Perhaps she inherited
property and then moved there, or sold it (and the deed records for the sale
may show her residence at that time.)    She may have also have remarried in
her new location of residence.

               Also, there is an internet site that Public Record Searchs
... you can do a preview search (ie. no charge) at:

search sites.
