On the fifth of april I posted a rather long query which included the
following paragraph;
This family group, minus father and with Step father William Pitt whom Pitt
Street in Gardiner is named for, came west by wagon train, again according
to Aunt Beth my great Uncle Albert Barnes Melvin received his middle name
from my second great grand ma's gratitude to a Mrs. Barnes from the wagon
train who nursed great grand through the trip and kept him alive in spite of
his TB. Considering what I have found out so far about Emma Sherrett nee
Tucker or Woodruff, I wonder about that story too, but if I could find the
wagon train they were on and find a Mrs. Barnes I might start to believe.
I was reviewing this because I was archiving some stuff Bob Casebeer sent me
in reference to this letter and discovered that I made this query a little
vague, the family group didn't get added;
64. JOEL5 MELVIN (JONATHAN4, JONATHAN3, JONATHAN2, JOHN1)568,569 was born
April 03, 1802 in Phelps, New York, and died November 17, 1828. He married
ELIZABETH N. WISNER570, daughter of JAMES WISNER and ELIZABETH CARPENTER.
She was born December 30, 1803570, and died May 06, 1896 in Tacoma,
Wa.570,571.
Children of JOEL MELVIN and ELIZABETH WISNER are:
i. ?6 MELVIN, b. May 1827, Or 1828572; d. November 10, 1827, Or 1828572.
92. ii. JOEL HENRY MELVIN, b. November 30, 1822; d. January 23, 1879,
Quincy, Branch Co., Michigan.
iii. GEORGE JOLINE MELVIN572, b. April 18, 1824572.
93. iv. MILAN MORRELL MELVIN, b. June 08, 1830, Gerry, Chataqua County,
N.Y.; d. November 16, 1894, Newhall, Washington.
94. v. BETSY MELVIN, b. Abt. 1827.
I should point out that if you have traced any of your lines of ancestry
back to Concord, Massachussetts before 1800 there is a high degree of
probability that we are kin. I have one something or other cousin back there
I can do a kinship report on and my son ends up related to him about 18
different ways.
