[or-roots] Uploads and Documentation of Files

Gee, I don't know, but I think this would be worth dropping a dime on him to
BYU - My guess is that they wouldn't look too favorably on one of their
instructors blowing someone off like this. Do you know anyone on that campus
in Idaho?

Perhaps a compromise? You send him the information "ready to upload"
(whatever that is) so all he has to do is forward it to Salt Lake.

BTW, I complained about someone co-opting a lot of my information (from a CD
to which I had contributed [bad]) and then sending it to Salt Lake. I
observe that the information is no longer on the site. This guy had
wholesale taken trees for which he had *no* relationship and sent them in a
batch, I guess. Anyway, they are *all* down. You will not find his name
anywhere on the site.

Worth a shot.

Pat (in Tucson)

Here I am "A day late and lots of dollars short" but for what it's worth -
- - ? I am LDS (Morman) and a genealogist to boot and as far as "the"
records being correct - - - holding breath counting to ten - - - - much of
it is not! In my case what is in error is the births/deaths between 1890
and 1950 some instructor at "Rick's" collage submitted my father's line/s
and we have cousins as brother/sisters and sons as father's and names
misspelled and now it time to go back to bed with a sick headache. The man
won't even answer mail written or email since "it's not one of my primary
lines!"

HE could submit the corrections and solve the problem but HE isn't
interested. This has done a lot to put a damper on my passion for
genealogy!

Verdena, I'll bet it was him that messed up your records since we work on
the same area of Oregon.

i have just one more thing to say and then i am off here. for years and
years the LDS church has been saying that anyones records can be corrected.
this is wonderful but do you know of anyone that has ACTUALLY changed
anything that is on the record with the LDS church. neither do i. i am not
bashing the mormon's and i hope this doesn't come across like that. the
amt. of info that i have received from the LDS church is astounding. these
are some great people who let this problem get away from them right from the
get-go. it is way too late to change anything. IN MY OPINION, and thats
all it is, they need to scrap everything they have and start over. i am
admittedly not smart enough to figure out how we could only have correct
data coming in but they do need to raise the bar on this one and i am sure
someone far smarter than myself has some opinions. i appreciate the
opportunity to vent as this is a real problem that needs someones attention.

I have seen the LDS records that claim that my aunt, the youngest one in her
family was married to her father.

I agree with Gary that LDS files contain errors. I forget the man's name,
but one of my 1850's ancestors married his mother on the day he was born...
according to LDS files. :-) It's too bad those files are etched in stone.

i'm sorry. it was not my intention to insult or hurt anyones feelings when
i posted.i know that most people are using the files at some of these
websites for a starting point and there is nothing wrong with that. i have
sat at the forum and other libraries and watched people downloading
thousands of names from the family search into their files. i have asked if
they were going to research all those names themselves and have been told
they were just too numerous and the file would be come part of theirs.
there is so much junk out there that it scares me. everything i did up to
about 10 years ago was on paper. every item and every name was proven. i
took classes thru the lds libraries and they are the ones that said if you
don't have at least three sources for your material, it is not good. i
hppen to disagree with that since a lot of my early work was thru members of
the family who are now gone, but i do list where i got it. if i was a
littleabrasive for some, and i can be, i am sorry, again. the lds records
on family search are corrupted beyond hope. they will never be corrected.
i have found a member of my family that lds records say she had 27 children.
my gr. gr. or whatever had 12 children but the lds records show one child 6
times and some of the others are the same. each person that submitted info
on this family had something different in their records so it became another
child of this family, even if it had the same name. i was selected many
years ago to be on the beta list for the family research. the lds church
sent me about 100 cd's. each time they upgraded it i got all new cd's.
this is how i know these cd's were NEVER corrected. and again, i am sorry
if i stepped on anyone's toes as this was not my intent. i just want all
the records that people use to be as accurate as possible.
