Would you ask this list for help selecting a spouse? Probably not, so
since you are going to be 'married' to your genealogical software
choices, may I most humbly suggest downloading a few demos, trying them
out, and seeing what *you* like.
Buying a bunch of data CD's is probably not your wisest possible
investment choice -- a lot of that info is already available on the
internet or through your local library for free. Many local LDS FHC's
have site subscriptions to Ancestry.com and a lot of library's subscribe
to Heritage Quest, sometimes offering remote access.
And, as far a 'deals', since you are shopping e-bay, PAF 5 is free, as
is Legacy 4.0, and even Ancestry.com used to offer one before they were
bought by the Utah conglomerate, My Family. There may be others.
Try out as many as you can. If you have an identical twin out there in
the world doing genealogy with her computer, maybe her input would bear
a little more weight, but otherwise, check 'em out yourself, since it
*is* you who is asking.
Respectfully,
Bill Strickland
