[or-roots] A different kind of list

I agree wholeheartedly. Some of us reading this list are genealogists
because we are interested in history. Linking our own families to historical
timelines gives history a dimension not found in the text books. I've found over
the years that the people most willing to help me out with a check of a local
cemetery or courthouse or newspaper archive are those genealogists to whom the
whole field is a giant puzzle to be solved.

Seeing the reference to Del's in Medford not only made me smile remembering a
long-ago first date and Del's famous barbecue beef burger...it also made me
realize that shared experiences, no matter how trivial, are history in the
making. The mundane events of daily life are much more to the point than the epic
events that make Time magazine covers.

Besides, this list goes dormant for days or weeks at a time, and if it takes
a reference to onions, roses, or hamburgers to wake it up, then so much the
better!
