[or-roots] Early Railroad Travel to Oregon

I am wondering if anyone knows when the first train made it way to Oregon and from what direction.  I hope this is not a dumb question, my Great Grandmother came to Oregon in the late 1880's from Kansas - she ended up in Oakville, Linn County, Oregon.  I always thought she came by train.   Anyone know anything about Alvina Jane Hawley who married  John B. Couey in 1892.  I have the marriage certificate but can't find where  my grandmother is buried.  She lived at Shelburne and died in 1897.
