HI:

In about the middle of 1880 the Shepard Barnes families
were supposed to (by Shepard's Poem) left Minn for
Omaha, take the "Imigrants Train" for SF. The Stayed
in the Old Russ House hotel for several days and took
the Geo. W. Elder steamer up to the Columbia bar,
then up the Columbia to the Willamette River, and
Portland. By stage over a corderoy road to Snookemville
near Beaverton. Later in 1883 the Reynolds, Albert,
his wife Charity Alice and Josiah came by train to LA,
then SF. On arrival they went out to see the Pacific
Shore, but all they saw were wharves. You had to go
10-miles N or S to find a beach even then. They
also took a steamer to Portland, stayed at the Tullock
house, then took a train inland, and went by stage to
the Alsea area of Lincoln Co.

  Thanks Gene,

But I really don't think they were ever on a boat. Would have heard something about that over the years. Now I am puzzled. Maybe I will never know.
