Hi:

I have my doubts about the truth of his poem. He and
Charley Johnson, son-in-law and John Calvin Barnes his
son are the only one missing from Minn. in the June 1880
cenus. The first deed was singed 1st week of June in
Oregon. Next deed ist week in Oct. If in fact they
came out leaving but Mellen and Eleanor, then Elbridge,
James, John Calvin, and the Wiley family went back to
Minn. I have John there in 1883 where his boy was
born Elbridge Shepperd Barnes, and Elbridge my ggf
stayed until 1896-1898. He had a large property
development at Markeville in 1896. James W.
Wileys wife died in Minn, and he stayed. Wayne W.
his son, went with Shepard, and Bessie his dau. went
with Elbridge.

One of the census in Minn. show Jack Early with Elbridge.
Martha Kirk Reyolds Barnes uncle was Allan French.
He and his wife took in the Kieft twins in Mnn. when
Mrs.K died. They moved to Alsea, and Jack Early
m. one of the girls. Their descendant wrote the book,
"The Land that Kept Its Promise."

The closeness of the families seemed to have followed
everybody out. Elbridge was in Bayview in 1900,
John Calvin there in 1895, James Wilson was there buying
property - Just like they did in Minn. John Calvin divorced Jane Tullock, and m. Albert Reyonds divorced
wife Charity Alice (Above) and they ran "Barnes & Co.,"
store in Bayview until about 1917.

One of the curios is that F. C. Barnes, no relation, ran
the Fish place, and John C. had an interest in it. Both
went by Cal - Albert Reynolds played fiddle for the
dances as well as a Cal Barnes. Was it F.C. or J.C.?
Would it not be a story to have the two husbands
of the same woman, both playing fiddle on the same
night?

That certainly would be Family Closeness!

Gene

  Thanks Gene,

But I really don't think they were ever on a boat. Would have heard something about that over the years. Now I am puzzled. Maybe I will never know.
