Another of Portland's old timers went during
WWII.  The wood yard out near Foster Road
burned, and along with it their collection of old
Mack, chain driven, hard wheeled delivery
trucks.  During the 30's out near SE 68th,
the Junk man and fish man both had rubber
tired hacks.  The fish mans was a converted
horse drawn hearse with leaded glass windows.

My grandmother was the first to on the block to have a modern regrigerator: 
Up to that time
the ice man with his leather cover and tongs would desposit the blocks in 
the chest on the
back porch.  (circa 1934).
