We were still using an ice box in Portland, S.E. 11th Ave, in 1946 or
so. The arrival of the ice man was an event not to be missed by all the
neighborhood kids, especially in the summer. In the winter time we got
our ice kick by breaking huge icicles from the eves of houses. --Anne
