[or-roots] Goodman in Umatilla

My ggGrand Father died in Umatilla about 1850. His Name was Joseph B. Goodman--b. in Indiana about 1819.  Do you have any info beyond this? His son was Thomas Goodman.  Could he have been on a Wagon Train or was he earlier than that?
