[or-roots] Worst and Best Christmas

While on Military Service, I was assigned to a project involving the first Weather Satellites (TIROS).  it was very interesting and fun but we (about 6 of us) ended up in New Jersey, right on the coast. It was December and we knew that we wouldn't get home for Christmas. We lived in a neaby Motel and ate at the Restaraunt nearby.  Christmas Day we went out in a Government Car to have Christmas dinner, but found ALL of the Restaraunts closed!!!!  We drove all over the area looking for a place to eat!  No Luck!!  Finally we drove up a back road still looking and saw a sign on an old Victorian style house that said "Open" .
Well what the heck!  We went up to the house and found it was and Italian Restaraunt!  It was open but no one was there.
Soon after we walked in out came the Whole Italian family!!!  They took us in like family!!  Fed us a meal I still remember.  Plenty of wine and good cheer.  What great People.  Christmas Day was great, even with snow falling and temps well below freezing.  When the meal ws over we wanted to pay the Bill.  But they just said Merry Christmas and wouldn't take our Money.  We did manage to donate some money to their church fund.
( We did notice that there were some big italian guys that came in aftr us and they just walked back to a door marked "No Entry".
We figured it was maybe a Mafia home!!  Still it was good people we met.)
