Finally I've finished a project I've wanted to complete for many years,
and that is to get my great-grandmother's autograph book scanned and
online. If you're interested in seeing what was in many ways a kinder
and gentler time, you'll find the album at
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~athena/gerking/martha_album/.
The first year written in the book is 1881 at Summerville, Union Co.,
and the last dated entry is 1893 in Haynesville, Klamath Co. These are
the years when county boundaries were changing, but other counties
involved include Morrow, Umatilla, and Wallowa.
The following either wrote a short note or left a calling card. If they
indicated a location, it is written after the name.
Sidney S. Beals, Eight Mile, Morrow Co.
W. H. Copeland
M. L. Copeland, Haynesville, Klamath Co.
Martha E. Copeland, Haynesville, Klamath Co.
Sarah Courter, Eight Mile, Morrow Co.
Albert Courter
Lottie Courter
A. F. Courter
Miss Lottie Duffy
Gertrude Gerking, Eight Mile, Morrow Co.
Samuel I. Gerking
Mrs. M. C. Harper
Maggie Higginbotham [this may be Eleanor Margaret HIgginbotham]
Hattie May Jones
Martha J. Lent, Lostine, Wallowa Co.
Cynthia Lent
Mrs. M. E. Nobles
Miss E. M. Roberts, Lostine, Wallowa Co.
Mrs. M. J. Robison
James Smith
Nettie Smith, Eight Mile, Morrow Co.
J. L. Smith Centerville (now Athena), Umatilla Co.
T. B. Smith, Lostine, Wallowa Co.
E. F. Tice, Summerville, Union Co. [this may be Eli Franklyn Tice, who
was living in Summervile in the 1900 census].
Then there are those who only left their initials:
C.R., L. L., and R.L.D.
I'm sending this to several relevant lists, so my apologies if you
receive this more than once. While I know a lot about the Smith and
Gerking families, I'd love to hear from anyone who has details about
others who wrote in Martha's book.
Beth
