It would seem there is something within settings in Firefox that doesn't get
along with the web site, perhaps the three of you could compare notes off
list to see if you can determine what the differances are, though since I
found the site "clunky" in terms of trying to locate specific information
you might not find it worth the effort.
In all fairness, I returned to the site to try again and find my stuff,
first I recommend using the "pick townshi-raange from coounty map button at
top of page when initiating search, if you know the general area you are
searching in you can hold the cursor over the page and a pop-up will tell
you what township and range you are over.
what you will see is something like this; OR 021-0S 004-0W I was reading
this as 9=021-05 which really confused me, but that is 0S for south and 0W
for west or T. 21 S., R. 4 W. which was my target area. now when I click on
that I get a page with the following colums;
Field Note pages Boundary Year Type Srvy_# Surveyor Orig Apprvd
I was wondering if there were any surveys associated with my Grandpa and his
brother's homesteads in sections 23 and 26 which would have been done abt
1910.
I got a page with 53 entries that looked kind of like this;
Vol: OR R0043
Intr: 0290.A-0291.0
Srvy: 0292.0-0352.0
Cert: 0352.0-0360.0
which I had found so confusing last time I visited the site, but I guess I
am a little more clear headed today
The vol stands for volume and 0043 is the number, I am not sure what the R
designates. anyway I clicked on 0290.A-0291.0
and got an image of my home township with a bunch of lines that look kind of
like this;
307
|
317------------306
|
27 305 26
which is a picture of the intersection of three section lines at the
northwest corner of my own share of the Chapman Ranch south of Cottage Grove
and happens to be a corner I paid to have restablished because a bad survey
had it way out of position.
the above example is from the original H. Gordon survey of this area however
and what the numbers tell me is the pages of the R0043 that re relevant to
that corner, so now I can go to 0292.0-0352.0 click on it and bring up
those pages.
at the top of the viewing page is an enlarge button, I recommend using it a
lot and if at all possible, before you attempt to print anything try and
improve the contrast of the image in some kind of image editor.
So waht I do to see those is click on the pull down at the top of the page
just under the enlarge button where it says select a page, click on the
arrow and you will see the pages you have selected, I wouls then click on
306 and see what the original survey notes were when they ran the line
betwen my property and BLM's rat preserve.
I hope this helps, if anyone does find something they are interested in and
needs help deciphering what it says, feel free to email me off list and I
will help you out.
