I don't know here you are located, but here in Central Oregon [read Bend],
there are at least two small book publishing companies. They are willing
to work with 'small run' customers and provide whatever services are
needed, from doing the page layout to cover design to just the printing or
printing and binding. The costs vary rather [I think] radically depending
on what you would have them do. Patti and I are finishing up a novel [our
first] and will probably have it printed by one of them [the lowest
bidder!] Both like the document to be in Pagemaker, and that reduces the
price a whole bunch.

Another thought would be self binding. The large paper houses like Arvey
Paper in Portland have plastic book covers that have a heat sensitive glue
inside the spine. The pages get set in the cover, then inserted into a
heating machine where things get stuck really good. I used to used this
system when I was a Licensed Tax Consultant. It certainly cut down on
clients returns not 'matching' what went in to IRS!!

I suppose you could just buy the covers and use a hot iron or some other
heat source if your only going to do a few. The machines [ten years ago]
used to cost about $100. Not that much, when compared to the cost of
professional binding.

My two cents,

Fred F.
