[or-roots] lame web site bashing

I suppose we probably have castigated Ancestry.com enough to be trying
Layne's patience; but I have to put in my two bits; what always irritates me
is to plug in a specific time frame I want to search and then get hits for
people with that name from the 13th century to yesterday when I specifically
asked for thirty year period in the 18th century. I pretty much gave up on
using Ancestry at all when I was looking for someone with a name about as
uncommon as John Smith and had no hope of finding the person without
restricting the search and what do I get. Well maybe not a bazillion, but I
got more hits than I could ever possibly hope to find and my person of
interest was nowhere in sight.

I find that particularly irritating when I run across a reference where
someone says they have posted their information on someone I want on
Ancestry and so I should go get there info there. I know a person is there
and not a chance in heck I will ever see them.
