[or-roots] Online book worth browsing

While searching for information on the Santiam Academy (where my
great-grandfather went to school in the 1850's), I came across a digitized
book on "Google Books" that may be of interest to others.  It's "The
Oregonian's Handbook of the Pacific Northwest," By Edward Gardner Jones,
published in 1894.  It's about 600 pages of small articles about towns all
over Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia, including beautiful engraved
illustrations of the scenery and buildings, plus photos of many important
citizens.  The index is on pages 595-631.  Enjoy:
