Hello! What a nice search you did for me. Here is where my research is at.
I've been doing this now for about 10 years. I have the marriage cert,
Daniel and his brother George married two sisters, Catherine and Ellen.
Daniel went to Eugene, George went to Milam Co Texas. I'm from the line in
Illinois, Fay F Christian being my grandfather. That is where Daniel Jr
moved to (Carroll Co Il) from Boonsboro Md. John was born on the trail out
to Eugene, George had a daughter on his trip south too. My guess is they
landed in that area for sure in 1853-4 (Oregon Tax Roll records). I have
located and met several cousins in Texas from George's line and would love
to do the same. To the best of my knowledge no surviving Christian surnames
are in the Eugene area. A daughter of Daniel R married a Dunn so hoping to
find that family.
I would love to get the copies from E. Skinner's book!
The book you mentioned: Smith, George Washington,
History of Illinois and her people
Chicago: American Historical Society, 1927, 3120 pgs.
is not in my collection and you made my day with that find!
Also of note a few years back a professor from the U of Oregon contacted me
about Daniel R's home in Eugene. They placed it on the National Register of
Historical Homes. I pulled the land donation from NARA in Seattle Wa where
many Oregon records rest. I have the old plat maps too, great suggestion
btw. Daniel and Catherine are both at rest in the Pioneer Memorial Park in
Eugene, plot 184. To own all that land today we would be rich, however no
loss, we are very rich in the history of not only lovely Eugene but of many
parts in America. Thank you for your time and look forward to finding out
more from you! I'm member of SAR and SR.
The people on this listserver are great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Regards Paul
