Yes, I am aware of that marriage. Thanks.

I don't know whether this will help any with the Howell, Marrs connections but James E Howell and Sarah Shadwell's daughter Adoline who married Lafayette F Marrs settled in the Estacada area and their descendants are still there.

This has really gotten me to thinking about the Carrol(l) family that I
haven't really done much research on. Hettie Carroll married James
Ellison Howell back in either Indiana or Illinois (I can't remember).
They had two sons, Andrew Howell and Stanford Howell. Hettie died soon
after Stanford was born and James remarried a woman named Sarah (don't
know her last name). I don't know if they got married in Illinois or if
he met and married her in Arkansas. I doubt he would take two infant
sons to Arkansas by himself though. In Arkansas they were close to the
Marrs family and some of the Howell children married Marrs children.
They all went to Oregon after James died. Andrew and Stanford had gone
first. Sarah Howell took all of her remaining children to Oregon.

Evidently the Carrol(l) name was important to the family because Sarah
and James named one of their sons Carrol and he named one of his sons
Carrol. I had never thought to look for Carrols in Oregon, only in
Illinois or Indiana (I can't remember). But then when James and Sarah
Howell's daughter Sarah married John Llewelen and I found that his
father's name was Elison Llewelen and that they were from the same
Illinois or Indiana I started thinking these people must have either all
been part of the same religion or their ancestors had come to America
together and they were like a big clan that stayed together and moved
together. So, now I wonder if the Carrols were part of the group too.

	Such a fascinating puzzle.

	Dale;

I thought it kinda that way since I don't recall noticing Carrol(l) as a
particularly common name and since the population of Oregon in 1850
	wasn't
so huge as to generate every imaginable surname by accident. Some of
	them do
seem awfully common though. We had a friend her in Reedsport that was a
Foster descendant and she asked me to look into her ancestry, but at the
time I was pretty green and didn't get far, but in browsing 1850
	Clackamas
Co to find a Dunn to check out for Paul Christian I stumbled across
	about
five families of Fosters. Knowing they probably are no kin of my Foster
ancestors just somehow makes that a little discouraging.

Interesting. I have only begun to do research on the Carroll family and
it isn't easy because anything that I might find would be before the
1850 census. My great great grandfather's mother was a Hettie Carroll,
I don't know if that was a nickname for Henrietta or Harriet but I
assume it was a nickname. She was married and died in Illinois. Her
son ended up in Hardman Oregon and in fact is buried there.
