Cindy; there is a Barger street or ave or some such in Eugene, do you know
if your kin are connected to it too?

Genealogical material in Oregon donation land claims Vol 1 page 13

No. 308 Barger, John, Marion Co; b. 1822 Boone Co, Mo; SC 25 Mar 1850; m
Rebecca J. 16 Apr 1842, Benton Co, Mo. Aff; James Smith, Joseph Blackerby.

 Blackerby claim is No. 307 and John is on the Affadavit.Okay I would guess
the following answers my question;

page 18:
No. 442 BARGER, William B. Lane Co; b 1823, Boone Co., Mo; Arr. Ore 8 Aug
1853; SC 8 Jan 1854; m Elizabeth M. 11 Sept 1851 Mo. Aff; Philip Mulkey
(MA), Montgoery C Barger, Joseph B. McPherson, Felix G. Barger

page 14:
No. 326 SMITH, James Marion Co; b 1795 York Co, PA; SC 3 May 1852; m Sarah,
3 Feb 1820, Columbiana Co, OH. Aff: Wm. Langlois, John Warnock.

I'm guessing that is the correct James, there are a lot to choose from with
James Smith.

Okay, I'm not sure I can get away with this, but you should be able to go
to;

http://www.blm.gov/or/landrecords/or/060s010wm01.jpg

and see an outline map of the Barger Claim; if I read it right look along
the bottom row of odd rectangles from left to right you will see the numbers
32, 33 and 34 in fairly large rectangles and then 35 is in part of a box
about the same size as 34 except it has heavy borders breaking it into three
pieces. If I understand this right the lower left box is the Barger DLC. Why
it isn't shown on topo as DLC excapes me at the moment.

Okay, I give up, apparently the numbers in the OGS book do not correspond
with the ones on the USGS index page, or do they?

if you go to;
http://www.blm.gov/or/landrecords/or/t070s010w_001.jpg

in the middle of the top you will see W. Barger, which if you go to the
index image like the one above you will find once again you are apparently
in DLC with a serial or oder number of 308. What is more interesting is if
you scan down to section 10 you will see a house belonging to Barger. For
reference sake that house is about 1600 feet east, south east of today's
Evergreen School, If you look on Google Earth you will see a Mascher Rd that
kind runs off to the East south east and in the area of inters Cascade Hwy
NE that runs due N/S and an unnamed dirt track headed due south from where
Mascher turns a little north of a due west. follow the dirt track to where
it turns right angles to join with Cascade Hwy and you will see a building
complex in the timber just at the corner. If that isn't the Barger house
shown in the old plat map, I am sure it is close to it.

I am going to break off as I have to go pick up the nephew from school. If
you are unable to view the links above I can email them to you off list.
This is actually on the east end of the Blackerby claim as near as I can
tell.

You might want to poke around some more at the site where these maps are.

Pat,
So glad that this is being done!!! My Gr. gr. grandparents, John & Rebecca
Smith Barger and her parents, James and Sarah Jennings Smith of course were
in Silverton, Oregon, and I have wanted to "see" where their land was !
Have picture with "Barger" Street. Again, looking forward to seeing this
when in the Silverton area !
