I enjoy reading the conversations that pop up but I read the about DLC's
with interest. I am from Clackamas County so the names mentioned are not
germane to my families. I don't know when and how land grants were finally
proved up and surveyed and issued but Josiah Burnett's DLC in Douglas County
was issued in 1893, 18 years after he died and 33 years after he left
Douglas County under May 20, 1862: Homestead EntryOriginal (12 Stat. 392). And
he was a surveyor. We have field notes from many surveys in the Roseburg
area. Also Philip Foster's DLC was registered in 1877 on land he purchased
in 1847 in Eagle Creek under September 27, 1850: Oregon-Donation Act
(grant) (99 Stat. 496) . Other family DLC's from Douglas County were registered
in 1865. Also the original land had been sold or divided in many cases by
the date of issue. So maybe the number does not related to the original
settlement on the land.
