Carla;
I wonder if I had never made that connection? I don't remember doing so, but maybe I just walled it off as my Picketts were all Wisconsin or California. Strange HQ can't find them at all, but LDS index has both father and son. Clearly spelled Pickett in the HQ image. ??
These folks aren't connected to either my or Dales people either most likely as they're from Ohio.
Since Charlotte appears in the Census with no e on her name I figured she would be easy to find in the index, but no.
Interesting, the Butte was named for William T who is listed in GLO index as William L. He homesteaded all of section 28 which is the Winters Creek drainage more or less. If that doesn;t ring a bell you take the road off of Beaver Creek that will take you up the b ack side of Pickett and you go right through the middle of the section. Oops, no that doesn't show as going through on closer inspection? My memory says it does, but maybe that is an "unofficial" road.
Big sister Charlotte is listed as having a 160 acre (four forties) homestead closer to civilization, she had the piece of East Canyon creek where it bends due west just before it joins West fork, her east boundry ran from the bottom of Bear Gulch where it ceases to have any flat land north to the top of the ridge and a quarter mile wide from there almost to the west fork plus a forty that takes in the top of that knob between the mouths of the two forks.
THe aerial photo doesn't look like there is a Bear Gulch??

And, of course there is Pickett Butte in the Umpqua N.F., the site of a well-known fire lookout.
