It is sad when we realize that we don't know as much about our friends 
and acquaintances as we thought we did.  We think/hope that we have an 
open trusting relationship but that's not always the case.  Too bad that 
he couldn't have shared his emotions with you and possibly the pain of 
it all would have been less.
