I have been reading Skookum by Shannon Applegate and ran across a reference to a stage coach stop north of Drain that I believe is where my cousins show up in the 1880 Census. The only thing I can find online is another Applegate reference on Stephanie Flora's pages.

It is called "The Spotted Horse" in these narratives.
A tragic story indeed, and I never realized the depth of the "Joseph Lane" plot to support the South in the War of Rebellion.
