[or-roots] Pioneers of Oregon

If we were to list - the first pioneers to Oregon.
Would it be the trappers who came long before any others ?
Also - San Francisco was a town way before 1840, how many people came from there?
    I read six Matney brothers came to America - 3 went to the east coast , 3 went to San Francisco and I guess stayed there.

  It would be interesting to know the very early parts of this history of Oregon. < praise Joe Meek we have Oregon ;)

I noticed the Sapling grove mention did not get any attention.
Now how about all the mail and news paper artcles that sparked the first people to migrate west ?
