Actually the population in 1880 was around a hundred more people than live there now, by page count there were 350 people in town (I think) the whole precinct was 576 but that included Smith River, and yes scrolling through it was how I found them after I gave up trying to find them by name. Of course scrolling through them on Family search is a lot harder than it is on HQ, took me about five minutes to go through the whole precinct in HQ.
For anyone curious to know everything about the 1880 census here is a link to a helacious big pdf that has the population of every precinct in the census among other things.
