[or-roots] NewFamilySearch.org family record

So  I start to understand why folks are a little annoyed with the system; I go on and start on my family tree and get to my parents and first thing I notice is my father entered my mother's middle name incorrectly. But since it is his record and he died in 1999 I can't do much about that except offer my "dissenting opinion."
Then I go to her grand parents and I see a lot of omissions and misinformation. Well since my sources are family bible and death certs I assume the stuff there is wrong. Ironically I know one of the persons for certain as he has pursued the Melvin line even more fanatically than I have and I certainly am not going to get indignant with him.
I think I know the other person and am pretty sure she has the correct info since I am sure I have her a copy of my family files at the family reunion a few years back, so I wonder if she lost track of this, or lost interest. And are those funny little often too cryptic scraps of paper that many towns on the eastern seaboard transcribed their records onto a century or so ago really considered "original sources?" She has Gr Gr Grampa Tack dead in march but the funny little scrap of paper says "12 mo 21st 1849 of Cochesial" (sp?? it's something like that.) I don't see how to access others sources so will have to contact her to find out why.
If say she got that date from "History of Del Norte Co." does my silly scrap trump her second hand information?
