That may possibly refer to Out of State? There are some folks listed on the index that actually died “Out of State” and thus had no corresponding county. They may have been buried in Oregon which generated a listing within the death index for certain years. So far I have been unable to locate a certificate for any of my family that had that situation but that was the explanation I was given by the kind gentlemen at the Oregon State Archives desk. I recommend you search the death indexes of nearby states to see if they actually died in another state and were buried in Oregon.

I was searching for a death certificate last evening in the most recent list on line and found the name/person I was seeking, however there is no county identified and the letters "OS" appear - - (I'm sure that is a code for something other than "odd situation" "outer space", etc.) but I had hoped that I could narrow my search for the document to a county rather than spending the day going through 36 boxes...!?
