[or-roots] Social Security Death Index. . .

I believe that most mortuaries/funeral homes in current times just
automatically notify Social Security on any death.
I had a cousin who died in New Mexico in 1975 at age 33 in a job-related
accident. He was not married so there was no one drawing on his social
security but it showed up on SSDI. Don't know who notified SSA, perhaps
the State of New Mexico since it was an occupational accident. I
ordered a copy of his original application, to verify his Mom's name
because I wasn't sure which of my cousin's wives was the mother, they
blocked out the parent's names for confidentiality because he was young
enough that the parents might still be living. If I could provide proof
of death on the parents, they would release the info but I couldn't do that.
