Sorry to say I know nothing about anyone in the Douglas County area except my grandparents.
Then came to Roseburg from Kansas around 1901. They lived at 430 N. Rose St., in Roseburg
for many years. The house was torn down several years ago and is now a fire and police station.
Grandfather was an Odd Fellow and Grandmother was a Rebekkah, and president of the Rebekka
Lodges in Oregon from 1944 to 1946. They are interred in the big Roseburg Cemetery. Other than
that, sorry to say, I know nothing about genealogy of the area.

My 2great grandmother, Cordelia St Clair’s aunt was Mary St Clair Rice, wife of William Street Rice. Street and Mary were early settlers in Douglas County, Oregon. Mary kept a bible in which many earlier members of the Rice family were recorded (including Cordelia’s). The bible was referenced and partially transcribed in the 70/80’s by Stanley and Velma Rice and noted in their 1996 publication “Moses and Margaret Rice Family, from Canada to the West Coast, 1784-1996” I believe more information could be gleamed by obtaining a copy of the original. Stanley and Velma have passed as have most from whom they gathered their information. The location of the bible is unknown (to several currant researchers). It is not with the County Genealogical Society. Are any members of this list familiar with Rice descendants who might have access to or know anything about that bible? Any other suggestions as to where to look?
